This is how the gilts out of my litter turned out! please let me know what you all think!

1-10 gilt that i kept back for my sister to show! she took 7th at Tulsa State Fair!



This is the 1-9 gilt that i sold to a girl in Locust Grove, oklahoma. This gilt took 8th.

Howdy from Nampa,Idaho new to the site,I am taking over my sons deal he is off to college now.Hvae five cross sows,and three yorks,I am very interested in breeding yorks,and from what I see these look great wish my first three were this nice.Which boar did you use

What did Mike McCoy say about them? How many were in the class? To me they look like they could use a lil more finish and overall power and production. The top gilt could use a lil more squarer hip, looks likes she tucks her legs underneath her a bit. I like the 2nd gilt better she looks a lil more structurally correct. I would like to see more shape and dimension through theyre ribs and bottom 1/3. Are you going to be breeing these gilts?

The boar that i used was my own herd boar Power tripp, i know longer have him. Well he just said that on the top gilt that she needed to be stouter from end to end. I still own the top gilt. he placed her 7th and placed the bottom gilt 8th out of about 20 hogs. which we did better this year than last year lmao with there mother. I was thinking about breedin the top gilt to Gateway, kodiak or Arch wway. i am not sure which one But randy (My boyfreind) he wants to go with kodiak.

now on the top gilt she dont tuck her legs in under her that far when she is standing for feed and stuff.

power trip seemed to have done well. There is a lot of product in these gilts. I have to agree with Lazy Oak in his posts. He did do well and I don't know what kind of sows or how powerful the sows were, but a lot of product. If they tied up better in their ham loin junction, they would be better. Overall, still good enough to breed. Your choices of boars are also good choices that should match up well.

well last year the judge kick there other out because he said she was more of a market hog than a breeding gilt. which there mother was overall grand at our locacl and then overall grand at our county but didnt even get looked at at tulsa and ,ike i said he told us she was more of a market hog. So i was proud that this year her babies placed 7th and 8th

The mother is a strong looking sow. has she ever been bred to anything else?

No she just had this litter out of my boar Nova, and i plan on breeding her for an april litter to my boar right Beginning, which he is Right Choice X new Beginnings. He actually looks like the sow, they are out of the same mother. now the litter i have out of her and nova are really thick! but i have never been able to get anything bred when i have tried to ai. i am going to try it with the gilt above if she takes then i may try to bred frisky to another boar as well this fall

their looking really good,that boar has really done his part for you Manda. i will have to say that both gilts in my point (my opinion) would like for them to have Squareness on their hip,wider chest floor and would like to blow them up on their lower 1/3 . As a breeding Gilt/Sow point of view i really think there perfectly fine just mateing them to a boar that can add the faults they need to pass it to their offsprings.

Yes I agree. there mother was sifted at tulsa the year before because he ssaid she was a "market hog" not a breeding gilt. so bred her for these gilts. Yea and guess what... i no longer have there sire lmao.

Well let me say this,I think I would be proud to own either of these gilts,to put into my new yorkshire herd.And if I was wanting to add width from front to back top to bottom,I would look real hard at Mammoth,or Hawkeye for breeding

he is at moyers . depending on when u wanna breed them ive got a pretty good york boar from watsons.

Thanks Reunionridge, but if i cant get her bred to one of those boars, i just baught a good york boar IMO, not going to say he is the best but alot better than the one that i had before. He is Right choice X New Beginnings. He is a half brother to the gilts mother and he is built just like her.
