| try craigslist and heritage pig breeders forum those are the only places that I have seen semen sold for Large Blacks and Red Wattle. In those sires I remember reading that there was a red Wattle boar that was good around the houson area I dont know how far you are from there and I appologize for not being much help.

| Don't be sorry, I'm waiting for approval from the redwattleproject.com forum (to sign on).
Don't laugh at me here, don't trust the craigslist thing.
Depending on traffic Houson is a good 12 plus hr drive one way west for us.
But thanks anyways. |

| I would like to get red wattles and large blacks incorporated into my little hobby project that is why I have been doing some research. I wont laugh at you since at first I was a little sceptic but believe it or not some well known breeders use it and they sell some really good product they just use it as a last resort. Hartman ranch is a good breeder I had forgotten about him. Do you plan on freegrazing penning or a combination. |

| Well I guess you would say a combination. Ruby and Garnet are 7 wks old now and are confined to 1 pen right now. When our son's barrows got over 100# mark we added another 14' to their pen but it was diviided. When the ladies get 100# or more we wanted to extended the pen another 20 plus feet.
Some pain in the butt through out a mix female dog at our place and son/grandpa named and collared her and I'm trying to make the dog understand to be part of this family you don't kill chickens, you leave the mating pair of ring neck pheseant ALONE, if you go after any of the cattle you will get shocked and if you stay out of the show calf's field you will be OKAY.
I want them to get way bigger before we introduce them to a wooded field. We have larger prediators out there besides strange dogs (coyote, bobcat and don't know which one is native here mountain lion or panther)
Thanks for the website, I'm going there now. |

| Not yet.
It took close to a week to get premission to be on the forum at the redwattleproject.com. No one has written a reply back. Since this morning.
I'd emailed back and forth with this family, www.hartmanranch.com, but Tx is just to big of a drive with a 9 yr old and now that the state of La has changed the attendance law from 20 to 10 days of absence. Every sick day has to count, even though our son has athma and a weakend immune system.
I'm thinking of maybe breeding them to a dark Duroc, like someone said a cross breed gilt will always give cross breed babies.
Our son wants to keep the dark red color on his babies.
So young, but he got plans.
The better news is that they are only 8 wks old, so we got time to look....yhea right 6 mths of age will be here in a blink on an eye. |
