| 13 days out she should not be lactating at all. Either the due date is wrong or you have a big problem on your hand. Now that the gilts water has broke the babies inside of her need to come out or they will not survivr in her. Hopefully she starts spittin out live babies soon for you if not chances are you have lost your whole litter. I hope that is not the case but it does not sound good. |

| Sometimes this happens due to PRRS . It is somewhat common but the chances that the litter will live is not high. The baby pigs develop their lungs last, so this is the main issue. The pigs will be live and you probably will have a normal birthing but their lungs simply will not work. Good Luck and I hope everything turns out ok |

| Some gilts have problems with theyre first litters and go on to have many successful litters down the road. I guess it all depends on the breeder and the gilts worth to the breeder. Personally I dont have the room in my facilities to keep a gilt that had problems farrowing her litters. It just depends on how valuable the gilt is to you. Sometimes you have to cut your losses and try again on the next one. I know last year I spent just under $3000 on 2 bred gilts and ended up only getting 2 feeder pigs out of them. Lost a whole litter of durocs and lost all but 2 cross pigs and lost the sow with my 2nd bred gilt. However the previous year I had an excellent liiter of 16 out of a bred gilt and not one problem. Its just one big crap shoot. Good luck with her hopefully you get some live babies out of her today. |

| If her due date is tomorrow and she has already had the 1st pig dead, she could still be fine!! she needs of shot of oxytocin fast. she needs to be pushing!! have you checked to she if you can feel a pig? she just may be stuck and need a little help.
wake up people!!! |

| You have to be careful with the oxytocin. We try to steer clear of using it but when we do we never give oxytocin until the sow has had at least 3 babies. Just have to be careful with it cause too much of it could be a bad thing. |

| Thats great news. I am glad to hear majority of the litter is doing good as well as the gilt. It is very stressful but man its worth it when you see all those lil oinkers healthy and nursing strong. Congrats and good luck with them down the road. |

| Sometimes the hardest lessons are best learned at the beginning of a new adventure. Here is my first year story. I was about 11 or 12 and we bought a purebred Yorkshire from oklahoma. This was something that was a family project and all of us in our family to full advantage to use this ass an opportunity to get closer. To make a long story short, we lost the sow and only 4 pigs lived. This was an issue for us and we lost the pig because we were inexperienced and did not have anyone to turn to. The pigs were stuck and tried all kinds of things that today, are no issues for us. I am glad though that this was a complete learning experience for us at the beginning and not later on the road when we had 9 or 10 sows. Don't ever be afraid to ask the questions. Somethings are out of our control, but there are plenty of things that we can control. Good luck, Pigglet and I can promise you that this experience is going to make you a better breeder in the long run. |

| sometimes we have to start from the bottom up? the good thing is that you experienced it before you where deeper in this business?? i myself haven't experienced it BUT i will learn by your scare to be prepared in CASE this would ever happen to me or any one else..So keep your head up and look at the brighter future for you and the litter? |
